On the 22nd of May, a team of 7 Firefighters left the south west to travel to Scotland, to attempt to reach the summit of Ben Nevis on May 23rd. Prior to the climb, the team had been enduring physical endurance training to prepare for the climb whilst utilizing their current life-saving skills for use on the UKs highest point.

The team will be covering the 16KM distance whilst carrying a combining 175 pound stretcher and dummy, specifically designed to test the mental endeavour of each individual. All money raised during the climb will be going to Stand up to Cancer - A charity that continues to work excruciatingly hard to eradicate a disease that claims the lives of 164,000 people in the UK each year. Arco Professional Safety Services were proud to help take part in this climb for such a great cause. We had provided the following training for the onsite incident response team at Hinkley Point C:

  • Competent Climber
  • CRD Rescue
  • Confined Space High Risk Refresher
  • Confined Space Search & Rescue

Along with providing this important training, we’ve also supplied the teams climbing, rescue and confined space equipment.

Reuben Beavis, the Red Watch Crew Manager for the project said it was “A really good mix of degrading conditions and terrain made for a great mission.”
