Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) Servicing
All Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) including Full B.A., Escape B.A., Airline Apparatus (Supplied Air) and Respirators should be inspected monthly and serviced annually. The more complex Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) which includes Full B.A. and Escape Breathing Apparatus (EBA) typically requires additional major service/overhauls on a six to ten yearly basis, depending upon manufacturer. In addition, the compressed air cylinders used with this type of equipment require testing (Hydrostatic Test) every five years.
Airline Apparatus supplied via compressed air cylinders fitted to Airline Trolleys shares the same servicing requirements as SCBA, in addition if the air supply is from a factory ring main the quality of this air must be checked at least every three months and more frequently when the air purity cannot be assured. Mobile Air Supply (compressors) should be Air Purity tested whenever re-sited.
Oxygen Self Rescuers such as the MSA 30/100 or SaVox Chemical Oxygen Rebreathers require less maintenance due to their sealed design but should undergo a leak tightness test at least annually.
Respirators, either Full Face Mask or Half Mask for use with filters require regular maintenance and the replacement of certain parts essential to their safe functioning. Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) are also subject to essential maintenance to ensure that the Fan Units are working correctly and within manufacturers tolerances. Thorough inspection of the head tops used with the fan units and replacement of vital parts makes sure that the design level of protection is preserved.
The servicing of RPE can be facilitated either in our specialist workshops or on site by our manufacturer trained and certificated technicians.
