Arco Professional Safety Services have created a small training centre in HMP ISIS, a young offenders institute in East London and have begun training the inmates in height safety.
Gary Wood, Training Manager at Arco Professional Safety Services said:
“Wayne Smith, Service Director of NJC contacted our Training department in early January 2018. Wayne was looking for someone to help set up a training operation in the prison, in partnership with “Bounce Back”.
The idea was to train inmates in height safety, ladder use and equipment inspection. This was to be conducted with a view to offering inmates employment as window cleaners on their release from prison with NJC.
After a series of meetings with Wayne and visits to HMP Isis, a height safety training rig was installed by the Fall Protection department, inside the prison’s educational zone.”
Glynn Bibby, a trainer from Arco Professional Safety Services carried out the initial suite of courses on Monday, 3rd of September this year and has received great feedback from not only the staff but also the prisoners undertaking the courses. Glynn stated:
“it was a very challenging 3 days and took all my skills to keep the group on track”
