What it means to be a safe and responsible driver, including the legal obligations that apply when driving for work, the effects of fatigue, distraction and impairment, and how driver behaviour affects risk on the road.
• Expect the unexpected
How to anticipate and respond to hazards, changing conditions and the unpredictable behaviour of other road users, and what to do in the event of a breakdown or accident.
• Reading the road
How to interpret road conditions, signage, traffic patterns and environmental factors to make safer decisions and plan the safest route and approach before and during a journey.
• Safe vehicle
The checks required to keep a vehicle in a safe and roadworthy condition, including pre-journey inspections, understanding warning indicators and the driver's responsibility for vehicle maintenance and reporting defects.
• Assessment
