IRATA Training
IRATA certification is the internationally recognised standard for industrial rope access work. Courses are available for new entrants at Level 1, and for upgrade or revalidation at Levels 2 and 3, each requiring a minimum of four training days plus an independent assessment day. On successful completion, delegates receive IRATA certification at the appropriate level.
• Level 1: Basic Operative
Introduction to the IRATA double protection rope access system, harness assembly and equipment familiarisation, essential knots and rope manoeuvres, aid climbing techniques, and basic rigging and rescue procedures.
• Level 2: Intermediate Operative
Complex rope access rigging methods including tensioned lines, retrievable rigging and re-anchors, hauling systems and load management, a range of rope and climbing rescue techniques, and the theoretical knowledge required to ensure safe rigging and equipment use.
• Level 3: Advanced Operative
Advanced rope rigging and complex rescue techniques, job planning and supervision responsibilities, in-depth knowledge of the IRATA Code of Practice and relevant legislation, risk assessment and mitigation, and equipment limitations and safe systems of work.
• Assessment
Independent practical and theory assessment conducted by an IRATA assessor on the final day, in accordance with the IRATA Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme (TACS).
Practical exercises and theory delivered by an IRATA-accredited instructor. Assessments are conducted by an independent IRATA assessor in accordance with the TACS.
Personnel required to use rope access systems as part of their role, across industries including construction, telecoms, offshore and maintenance. Suitable for new entrants at Level 1 and for existing IRATA technicians upgrading or revalidating at Levels 2 or 3.
Delegates must be medically fit to work at height. Delegates must provide valid photo identification on the day of training. Delegates upgrading or revalidating must present their current IRATA logbook prior to training. New Level 1 candidates are not required to hold a logbook before the course. Delegates must be registered on IRATA TechConnect at least 48 hours before assessment.
