Legionella bacteria can present a serious risk to health when water systems are not properly managed. The Legionella Awareness course provides delegates with an understanding of the risks associated with Legionella, how bacteria can develop and spread within water systems and the practical measures required to control and prevent outbreaks. The course helps delegates understand their responsibilities and supports compliance with current health and safety and water hygiene requirements.

Learning about Legionnaires' disease, the symptoms of infection and the groups most vulnerable to its effects.

Understanding the conditions that encourage bacterial growth and how contaminated water droplets can spread Legionella.
• Legislation and Duty Holder Responsibilities
Reviewing the legal requirements relating to Legionella control and the responsibilities of employers, property owners, managers and duty holders.
• Identifying Risk Systems
Learning about the types of water systems that may present a Legionella risk, including hot and cold water systems, cooling towers and other water-based equipment.
• Legionella Risk Assessments
Understanding the purpose of risk assessments and how they help identify and manage potential sources of Legionella contamination.

Exploring the practical measures used to control Legionella risks, including temperature control, system maintenance, cleaning and disinfection.
