MPQC SPA Quarry Safety Passport Training
The MPQC SPA Quarry Safety Passport course provides delegates with the health, safety and environmental knowledge required to work safely within the quarrying, mineral products and extractive industries. Developed by the Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC) in partnership with the Safety Pass Alliance (SPA), the course combines core health and safety awareness with industry-specific hazard training, helping contractors and employees understand the risks associated with quarry environments and the controls required to work safely and responsibly.

An overview of the Safety Passport Scheme and its role in promoting consistent health, safety and environmental standards across the quarrying and mineral products industry.
• Health and Safety Responsibilities
Understanding the legal responsibilities of employers, employees, contractors and visitors, and the importance of maintaining a safe working environment.
• Accident Prevention and Incident Reporting
Learning how accidents occur, the causes of unsafe behaviours and the importance of reporting accidents, incidents and near misses.
• Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
Understanding how workplace hazards are identified, risks assessed and suitable control measures implemented to reduce the likelihood of injury or ill health.
• Safe Systems of Work
Exploring the importance of following site rules, method statements, permits to work and other safe working procedures.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Understanding the selection, use, care and limitations of personal protective equipment within quarry and mineral processing environments.
• Mobile Plant and Vehicle Safety
Learning about the risks associated with mobile plant, workplace transport and vehicle movements, including safe driving and reversing practices.
• Working Safely Around Quarry Operations
Understanding the hazards associated with extraction, crushing, screening, stockpiles and other quarrying activities.
• Dust, Noise and Occupational Health Hazards
Recognising common occupational health risks within the quarrying industry and the measures used to control exposure.
• Confined Spaces and High-Risk Activities
Understanding the additional controls required for higher-risk activities commonly encountered within quarry and mineral processing operations.
• Environmental Awareness
Learning about environmental responsibilities, pollution prevention, waste management and the protection of the surrounding environment.
• Emergency Procedures
Understanding site emergency arrangements and the actions required in the event of accidents, fires, environmental incidents or other emergencies.
• Behavioural Safety and Safety Culture
Exploring how personal attitudes and behaviours influence workplace safety and contribute to a positive safety culture.
• Assessment
Delegates complete the MPQC SPA assessment to demonstrate their understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements within quarry and mineral products environments.

There are no formal prerequisites for this course.
