CITA Instructor S-Cape Evacuation Equipment Working at Height Training
The S-Cape system provides a means of safe evacuation from the raised cab of a man-riding mechanical handling vehicle, and training others to use it correctly requires a level of competency that goes beyond user-level knowledge. This course, delivered under the Client Integrated Trainer Assessor (CITA) scheme, equips experienced personnel with the knowledge and practical skills to train and assess colleagues in the safe use of S-Cape equipment. Certification is subject to periodic audit to maintain standards.
• Introduction to the S-Cape system
The design, purpose and applications of the S-Cape evacuation system, how it works in a man-riding mechanical handling environment and the responsibilities of a CITA-scheme trainer in ensuring its correct use.
• Maintenance and servicing
The maintenance and servicing procedures required to keep S-Cape equipment in a safe and serviceable condition, including what inspections must be carried out and when equipment must be referred for service.
• Demonstrations of use
Instructor-led demonstrations of correct S-Cape operation before delegates progress to supervised practical exercises, providing a reference point for the techniques they will later be required to teach.
• Practical low-level descents
How to carry out controlled low-level descents using the S-Cape system correctly, including the equipment checks and safety precautions required before each descent.
• Practical high-level descents
How to carry out controlled high-level descents safely, including the additional precautions required at greater working heights and how to manage the descent in challenging conditions.
• Protection of delegates during training
How to protect delegates safely during training sessions, including the use of backup systems, positioning and supervision to ensure no one is exposed to uncontrolled risk during practical exercises.
• Safety line kit
How to set up and use the safety line kit correctly as part of the S-Cape training environment, including inspection, attachment and the precautions required during use.
• Inspection of training equipment
How to inspect S-Cape training equipment before and after use, identify defects and manage equipment that is found to be unfit for training purposes.
• Man-up truck for training purposes
How to use a man-riding mechanical handling vehicle correctly as part of the S-Cape training programme, including positioning, height management and safe working procedures during delegate training sessions.
• Assessment
Practical assessment conducted one week after the initial training days, in line with the CITA scheme requirements.
Two-day training course followed by a practical assessment day one week later, in line with CITA scheme requirements. Combines instructor-led demonstrations with supervised low- and high-level practical exercises using a man-up truck. Certified instructors are subject to periodic audit.
Personnel responsible for training colleagues in the use of S-Cape evacuation equipment, typically in supervisory or instructional roles where CITA accreditation supports operational safety and compliance.
Delegates must have experience as a man-riding mechanical handling equipment driver or trainer and must provide a completed application form and supporting documentation.
