Crane Access and Egress Training
Accessing automated crane systems in a warehouse environment presents working at height hazards that are specific to the structure, the access methods available and the working conditions around live equipment. This course gives delegates the knowledge and practical skills to access and egress crane systems safely using fall protection equipment. Delivered on site, it is designed for the specific access requirements of automated warehouse crane environments.
• Legislation and regulations
The legal framework for working at height on crane systems, including the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and the duties they place on employers and employees when planning and carrying out access to automated warehouse structures.
• PPE inspection and fitting
How to carry out pre-use checks and correctly fit harnesses, helmets, fall arrest lanyards and positioning lanyards in line with manufacturer requirements before each access.
• Demonstrations of use
Instructor demonstrations of the correct use of fall protection equipment and access systems specific to the crane structures present at the delegate's site, providing a reference point before practical exercises begin.
• Climbing techniques
How to climb safely on the crane structures found in the training environment, including correct body position, equipment management and the precautions required when transferring between sections of the structure.
• Access methods
How to use fixed systems, fall arrest blocks and lanyards correctly for access to and egress from crane systems, including when each method is appropriate and how to maintain continuous protection throughout.
• Emergency procedures
Awareness of the emergency procedures applicable to crane access environments, including what to do in the event of a fall, how to initiate a rescue and the precautions required when working in proximity to live warehouse equipment.
• Assessment
Theory test and observed practical assessment evaluated by the course instructor.
Course delivered on site, combining instructor demonstrations with hands-on practical exercises on the crane systems present in the delegate's working environment. Theory and practical assessments are completed on the day.
Warehouse engineers, “jam-busters”, on-site rescue personnel and fire suppression system engineers required to use fall arrest equipment to access automated crane systems.
Delegates must be physically capable of working at height and should have experience in warehouses or industrial environments.
