Dynamic Risk Assessment Training
Static risk assessments cannot anticipate every hazard; when conditions change on site, the people doing the work need the skills to assess and respond to new risks in real time. This course gives delegates the knowledge and practical skills to identify hazards, evaluate risks and carry out dynamic risk assessments effectively, in line with the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. On successful completion, delegates receive a certificate of competency.
• Principles of risk assessment
The purpose and principles of risk assessment, the five-step process required under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and how dynamic risk assessment fits within the broader framework of workplace risk management.
• Legal background
The legal requirements for risk assessment, including what the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require of employers and employees and the consequences of failing to assess and control risks adequately.
• Hazard identification
How to identify a wide range of workplace hazards quickly and systematically, including those that were not present or foreseeable at the point of the original risk assessment.
• Risk evaluation
How to evaluate the level of risk presented by identified hazards, including assessing likelihood and consequence, and how to prioritise action when multiple hazards are present simultaneously.
• Risk reduction
How to select and implement appropriate risk reduction measures in response to dynamically assessed hazards, applying the hierarchy of controls under time pressure and with the resources available on site.
• Desktop exercises
Practical scenario-based exercises applying dynamic risk assessment techniques to realistic workplace situations, reinforcing hazard identification, risk evaluation and control selection skills.
• Assessment
Knowledge checks completed at the end of the course.
Classroom-based course combining theory with desktop scenario exercises to apply dynamic risk assessment techniques to realistic workplace situations.
Personnel required to assess and manage risks in their workplace, and supervisors and managers who need to identify and respond to dynamic risk situations as conditions change on site.
