Embankment Access and Egress Training
Learn to access and work safely on slopes up to 50° using adjustable fall arrest and work restraint systems. You will practise selecting anchors, using PPE correctly, managing risks and responding to emergencies, building the confidence to operate safely under supervision.
• Slope hazards and risk awareness
The hazards associated with working on embankments, cuttings and steep slopes, and how ground conditions, gradient and environmental factors increase risk.
• Work restraint and fall arrest systems
The difference between work restraint and fall arrest, and how to correctly fit and use harnesses, lanyards and personal fall protection equipment to prevent falls.
• Temporary access systems
How to select and use temporary access equipment such as stairways, horizontal lifelines and anchor systems to enable safe movement on sloped ground.
• Safe working on steep and unguarded ground
How to carry out activities such as vegetation clearance and civil maintenance safely on embankments where edge protection is limited or absent.
• Emergency planning and rescue procedures
How to plan and implement rescue arrangements for slope-based work, including recovery of a suspended casualty and coordination of emergency response.
• Assessment
Practical assessment of safe access, equipment use and emergency response procedures carried out in a simulated slope environment.
Classroom instruction combined with practical exercises on slopes of up to 50°. Participants practise equipment use, anchor selection and movement under instructor supervision.
Operatives, supervisors and contractors working on or near embankments, slopes, cuttings or other steep infrastructure where there is a risk of falls from height and restricted access conditions.
Delegates must be physically capable of working at height and operating in uneven or sloped terrain.
