
Fire Marshal and Warden Responsibilities
Develop the knowledge and skills to carry out your duties as a fire marshal, prevent fires from starting and respond effectively when an emergency occurs. You'll learn how fires start and spread, how to raise the alarm, lead a safe evacuation and use fire-fighting equipment correctly. • Fire safety roles and responsibilities
The importance of fire safety in the workplace, the key roles involved in fire management and the specific duties of a fire marshal — including prevention, monitoring and emergency response.
• How fires start and spread
The principles of combustion, common sources of ignition, how fires develop and spread in workplace environments, and how to recognise and reduce fire hazards including the risk of arson.
• Emergency response
How to raise the alarm correctly, ensure the safety of employees and visitors during an incident, and make safe decisions about tackling small fires without putting yourself or others at risk.
• Evacuation procedures
How to carry out a safe and effective evacuation, including the use of escape routes and fire doors, accounting for all personnel and making appropriate arrangements for people with disabilities or mobility needs.
• Fire-fighting equipment
The classes of fire, the types of extinguisher available and how to select and use the correct extinguisher safely using the PASS method.
• Assessment
Online knowledge checks completed throughout the course.
