Hot Works Safety with Permit to Work Training
Safe hot work depends on more than individual competency; it requires a functioning permit to work system that everyone involved understands and follows correctly. This course gives hot work operatives and supervisors the practical knowledge to plan and carry out hot work under a permit to work system, covering risk assessment, hazard identification, PPE, the fire watcher role and accurate permit completion. On successful completion, delegates receive a certificate of competency.
• Risk assessment and equipment suitability
How to carry out a risk assessment for hot work operations, assess the suitability of equipment for the task and environment, and identify the conditions that would prevent hot work from proceeding safely.
• Hazard identification
How to identify the hazards associated with hot work areas, including the presence of flammable materials, inadequate ventilation and heat transfer risks, and the control measures required to manage each.
• PPE and flammable materials
How to select and use the correct PPE for hot work operations, and the precautions required when working in areas where flammable materials are present or stored nearby.
• Fire watcher role and responsibilities
The specific duties of the hot work fire watcher, including monitoring for ignition during and after the work, the duration of the watching period and what action to take if a fire develops.
• Hot work permits
When a hot work permit is required, what it must contain and how to complete one accurately within a permit to work system, including the checks required before signing off and how the permit controls the operation from start to finish.
