Legionella Awareness
Legionnaires' disease is a serious and potentially fatal illness caused by Legionella bacteria proliferating in poorly managed water systems - and duty holders have a legal responsibility to prevent it. This course explains how Legionella develops and spreads, what control measures are required and what the law expects of duty holders, responsible persons and employees under COSHH and associated legislation. Completed entirely online, it supports organisations in meeting their statutory obligations for Legionella awareness training.
• Introduction to Legionella
What Legionella bacteria is, how it becomes airborne and enters the body, the health effects of exposure and the conditions in water systems that allow it to proliferate.
• Risk and control measures
How Legionella develops in water systems, the common hazards that increase the risk of proliferation and the control measures - including risk assessments, temperature management and system maintenance - used to reduce exposure.
• Responsibilities
The legal duties placed on duty holders and responsible persons under COSHH and associated legislation, the consequences of non-compliance and the role employees play in supporting effective Legionella management.
• Assessment
