Water Jetting Surface Preparation Training
This course equips delegates with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate surface preparation jetting equipment. Participants will learn to apply the WJA Blue Code of Practice, understand hazards associated with high-pressure and ultra-high-pressure equipment, perform daily equipment checks and work effectively as part of a competent team. The course also covers safe handling of jetting accessories, managing reaction forces and maintaining a safe and secure work area.
• Introduction to surface preparation water jetting
The principles, applications and operational purpose of water jetting for surface preparation tasks.
• WJA Blue Code of Practice and legal requirements
Key WJA guidance, Health and Safety at Work Act responsibilities and industry best practice for surface preparation operations.
• Equipment checks and defect identification
How to inspect water jetting equipment, identify safety-critical defects and ensure equipment is fit for operational use.
• Nozzle types and selection
The different nozzle types used in surface preparation and how to select the correct nozzle for specific tasks.
• Hose certification, inspection and management
How to verify hose suitability, carry out checks and manage hoses safely during operations.
• Reaction force awareness and control
Understanding reaction forces generated by high-pressure equipment and how to manage them safely through correct technique and control measures.
• PPE and RPE requirements
Selection and use of personal protective equipment and respiratory protection for surface preparation tasks.
• Ultra-high-pressure (UHP) systems
Awareness of UHP operations, associated hazards and additional safety considerations.
• Abrasives and grit blasting comparison
How water jetting compares to grit blasting methods and the operational considerations of each.
• Team roles and operational responsibilities
Competent team structures, responsibilities and safe coordination during surface preparation activities.
• Typical injuries and accident prevention
Common injury types associated with surface preparation water jetting and how incidents can be prevented.
• Job applications and operational scenarios
Typical applications of surface preparation water jetting and how procedures vary by task.
• Assessment
Theory-based classroom assessment and practical assessment using live water jetting equipment.
Classroom-based theory combined with practical, instructor-led assessment using live surface preparation water jetting equipment. Training focuses on safe equipment operation, hazard awareness, reaction force management and compliance with WJA Codes of Practice.
