Mental Health First Aid Training
One in four people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year and having trained, confident people in the workplace to spot the signs and offer initial support makes a measurable difference. This MHFA England course gives delegates the knowledge and practical skills to recognise mental health issues, start a supportive conversation and guide people towards appropriate help. On successful completion, delegates receive MHFA England certification as a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider), with access to the MHFAider Support App and ongoing support beyond the course.
• Understanding mental health
An in-depth look at mental health, the factors that affect wellbeing and the range of conditions a Mental Health First Aider may encounter, including how stigma affects whether people seek help.
• Recognising signs and triggers
How to spot the early signs that someone may be experiencing poor mental health, the triggers that can affect a person's condition, and how to notice changes in behaviour or mood that may indicate someone needs support.
• Starting a conversation
How to approach someone you are concerned about, start a supportive and non-judgmental conversation and create the conditions in which a person feels safe to talk about what they are experiencing.
• Non-judgmental listening
How to use active and non-judgmental listening skills effectively, including how to respond to difficult disclosures and maintain appropriate boundaries while providing genuine support.
• Signposting to support
How to help someone access the right support for their needs, including self-help resources, employer support, NHS services and community options, and how to guide someone through the process of taking that first step.
• Skills practice and case studies
Group activities, case studies and skills practice applying the MHFA action plan to realistic scenarios, building competence and confidence across a range of mental health situations.
• Assessment
Ongoing assessment through participation in group activities, discussions and skills practice across both days.
Classroom-based course combining group activities, case studies, discussion and skills practice. Delivered by a qualified MHFA England instructor. MHFAiders receive 24/7 digital support through the MHFAider Support App on completion, with access to exclusive resources and ongoing learning opportunities.
