Working at Height Awareness Training
Knowing which working at height controls to apply - and when further specialist training is needed - is a management and planning competency as much as a technical one. This course gives supervisors, managers and planners the knowledge to apply the hierarchy of control to working at height tasks, identify appropriate control measures and determine where further training is required. On successful completion, delegates receive a certificate of competency.
• Legislation and regulations
The legal framework for working at height, including the Work at Height Regulations 2005, the hierarchy of measures it requires and the duties it places on those responsible for planning and managing work at height tasks.
• Risk assessment awareness
How to identify working at height hazards, assess the associated risks and determine which control measures are appropriate for the task and environment.
• Hazards and control measures
The range of hazards associated with working at height and the control measures available at each level of the hierarchy, from elimination and collective protection through to personal fall protection equipment.
• PPE awareness
An introduction to harnesses, helmets, fall arrest lanyards and work positioning lanyards - what each is designed to protect against, when its use is appropriate and what further training is required before it can be used safely.
• Safe use of portable ladders
The circumstances in which portable ladders are an appropriate means of access, what the Work at Height Regulations require and the checks required before use.
• Edge protection
The types of edge protection available, when each is appropriate and how edge protection sits within the hierarchy of control as a collective protection measure.
• Emergency procedure awareness
Awareness of the emergency procedures applicable to working at height environments, and the supervisor or planner's responsibility for ensuring rescue provision is in place before work begins.
• Assessment
