CISRS COTS (Construction Operatives Training Scheme) Course
The CISRS COTS (Construction Operatives Training Scheme) course provides delegates with the knowledge and awareness required to work safely on or around scaffolding within construction and industrial environments. Covering scaffold safety, legal responsibilities and hazard awareness, the course helps delegates understand how scaffolding is used, how to identify unsafe conditions and the precautions required to reduce the risk of accidents when working at height.
• Introduction to Scaffolding in the Construction Industry
An overview of the purpose of scaffolding, its role in supporting construction activities and the importance of working safely around scaffold structures.
• Legal Responsibilities and Industry Guidance
Understanding the key legislation relating to scaffolding and working at height, including the responsibilities of employers, employees and contractors.
• Scaffold Terminology and Components
Learning the basic terminology used within the scaffolding industry and identifying common scaffold components and their functions.
• Types of Scaffold Structures
Reviewing the different scaffold types commonly encountered on site and understanding their intended use and limitations.
• Scaffold Safety and Hazard Awareness
Recognising common scaffold hazards, unsafe conditions and defects that could increase the risk of accidents or falls.
• Working Safely on and Around Scaffolding
Understanding safe access and egress arrangements, load restrictions and the importance of using scaffolds only for their intended purpose.
• Scaffold Inspection Awareness
Learning the importance of scaffold inspections, scaffold tags and handover procedures, and understanding how to identify when a scaffold should not be used.
• Preventing Falls from Height
Understanding the causes of falls from height and the measures used to prevent them, including collective and personal protection systems.
• Reporting Defects and Unsafe Practices
Learning how to identify, report and respond appropriately to scaffold defects and unsafe working practices on site.
• Assessment
Delegates complete an assessment to demonstrate their understanding of scaffold safety principles and the key topics covered during the course.

This course is designed for construction operatives, labourers, tradespeople and other personnel who work on or around scaffolding as part of their daily duties. It is suitable for individuals who require an understanding of scaffold safety but are not responsible for erecting, altering, dismantling or inspecting scaffold structures.
There are no formal prerequisites for this course.
