Confined Space High-Risk Reassessment Training
Renew your High-Risk Confined Space qualification by demonstrating continued competency across the practical skills and underpinning knowledge required to work safely in high-risk environments. This reassessment includes familiarisation with equipment and regulations but does not cover the full training programme delivered on the initial course. Successful completion renews your high-risk confined space qualification for a further three years.
• Legislation and regulations
A review of the legal framework for confined space work, including the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 and the requirements of ACoP L101, with focus on any updates since initial qualification.
• Definition and specified risks
A review of how confined spaces are defined under the Regulations and the five specified risks, with particular attention to high-risk classifications and the conditions that trigger them.
• Duties under the Regulations
A review of employer and employee duties, including the primary obligation to avoid entry where reasonably practicable.
• Risk assessment and hazard identification
Practical application of risk assessment techniques in high-risk confined space environments, including hazard identification and selection of appropriate control measures.
• Atmospheric hazards and gas detection
A review of how hazardous atmospheres develop in high-risk environments and how to operate gas detectors, interpret readings and respond appropriately.
• Safe systems of work and permits to work
A review of safe system implementation, permit to work requirements and point-of-work assessment in high-risk operations.
• Roles and responsibilities
A review of entrant, top man and supervisory duties in high-risk confined space operations, including communication responsibilities.
• Communication procedures
A review of communication protocols between entrants and the entry controller, including escalation procedures when conditions deteriorate.
• Fall protection and entry equipment
Familiarisation and inspection of tripods, winches and fall arrest equipment used for entry into and exit from high-risk confined spaces.
• Breathing apparatus
Familiarisation and inspection of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and escape breathing apparatus, including donning checks and safe use under working conditions.
• Emergency procedures
A review of emergency arrangements, including alarm raising, rescue initiation and handover to a rescue team.
• Assessment
Observed practical exercises and a written test evaluated by the course instructor. This reassessment confirms continued competency rather than certifying completion of the full training programme.

Operatives and site workers who hold or recently held a High-Risk Confined Space qualification and need to renew their certification before returning to high-risk confined space work.
Delegates must hold a valid High-Risk Confined Space qualification, or one expired within one month. Delegates must provide proof of certification prior to attendance.
