Confined Space Rescue Training
Learn to work as part of a confined space rescue team, carrying out the safe rescue and recovery of casualties from high-risk environments. You'll learn rescue team roles and responsibilities, how to protect yourself and the casualty during an operation, how to use rescue equipment and breathing apparatus, and how to apply first aid and search procedures in confined space conditions.
• Rescue team roles and responsibilities
The specific duties of rescue team members during a confined space emergency, including how responsibilities are allocated, how the team is coordinated and how each member protects themselves and others throughout the operation.
• Rescue procedures and rescuer protection
How to plan and execute a confined space rescue safely, including the precautions required to prevent the rescuer becoming a casualty and the protocols for entering a space during an active emergency.
• Rescue equipment
How to inspect, prepare and use the full range of confined space rescue equipment, including lifting and lowering devices, stretchers, harnesses and lines, in line with manufacturer and procedural requirements.
• Breathing apparatus
How to prepare and use breathing apparatus appropriate to high-risk rescue scenarios, including donning procedures and safe use under operational conditions.
• First aid for casualty rescue and recovery
The first aid knowledge and practical skills required when recovering a casualty from a confined space, including initial assessment, managing unconscious casualties and preparing for handover to emergency services.
• Search procedures
How to conduct a search within a confined space to locate a casualty, including communication protocols, search patterns and the precautions required in low-visibility or atmospheric conditions.
• Rescue techniques
Practical techniques for extracting casualties from confined spaces, including vertical and horizontal extraction methods and the use of mechanical advantage systems where required.
• Assessment
Observed practical exercises and a short-answer question paper, evaluated by the course instructor.
Combines classroom theory with practical exercises in a high-risk confined space environment. Delegates apply rescue procedures, equipment use, breathing apparatus, search techniques and casualty extraction through scenario-based exercises assessed by the course instructor.
Operatives and site workers designated as confined space rescue team members, including those responsible for leading or supporting the rescue and recovery of casualties from high-risk confined spaces.
Delegates must hold a valid High-Risk Confined Space qualification as well as a valid First Aid certificate. Delegates must provide proof of both certifications prior to attendance
