CPCS A40A Slinger Signaller (All Duties) Novice Training
The CPCS A40A Slinger Signaller (All Duties) Novice course provides delegates with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely carry out slinging and signalling operations during lifting activities. Designed for individuals with little or no previous experience, the course develops an understanding of lifting accessories, communication methods, load assessment and safe lifting practices. Successful completion enables delegates to carry out slinger/signaller duties safely and effectively while working towards achieving the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.
• Introduction to the Role of the Slinger Signaller
An overview of the responsibilities of a slinger/signaller and the vital role they play in ensuring lifting operations are completed safely and efficiently.
• Health and Safety Legislation
Understanding the legal responsibilities of employers, lifting personnel and site operatives, along with the importance of complying with safe systems of work.
• Lifting Operations and Risk Assessment
Learning how lifting activities are planned, the hazards associated with lifting operations and the importance of risk assessment and control measures.
• Lifting Equipment and Accessories
Identifying different types of lifting accessories including chains, slings, shackles, hooks and lifting beams, and understanding their uses and limitations.
• Inspection of Lifting Accessories
Learning how to carry out pre-use checks, identify defects and ensure lifting accessories are suitable for use.
• Load Assessment and Weight Estimation
Understanding how to assess loads, determine centres of gravity and estimate weights to ensure safe lifting operations.
• Slinging Techniques
Developing practical skills in selecting and attaching lifting accessories using appropriate slinging methods for different load types.
• Signalling and Communication Methods
Learning standard hand signals, radio communication procedures and other methods used to direct lifting operations safely.
• Directing Crane and Lifting Operations
Understanding how to guide lifting equipment safely, maintain clear communication and ensure loads are moved without creating risks to personnel or property.
• Safe Movement and Placement of Loads
Developing practical techniques for controlling loads during lifting operations and positioning them safely and accurately.
• Working Around Hazards
Recognising common lifting hazards including overhead obstructions, restricted access, unstable loads and changing site conditions.
• Theory and Practical Testing
Delegates complete the CPCS Theory Test and Practical Technical Test to demonstrate their knowledge and practical competence.

This course is designed for individuals with little or no previous experience who are required to carry out slinging and signalling duties as part of lifting operations. It is suitable for those working within construction, civil engineering, utilities, industrial and infrastructure environments.
There are no formal prerequisites for this course. Delegates should have a good understanding of spoken and written English to successfully complete the theory and practical assessments.
