CPCS A62 Crane Supervisor Training
The CPCS A62 Crane Supervisor course provides delegates with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely supervise lifting operations in accordance with current legislation, industry standards and best practice. Designed for individuals responsible for overseeing lifting activities, the course develops an understanding of lift plans, communication methods, crane operations and site safety requirements, helping delegates ensure lifting operations are carried out safely, efficiently and in compliance with legal requirements. Successful completion supports the achievement of the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.
• Introduction to the Role of the Crane Supervisor
Understanding the responsibilities of the Crane Supervisor and their role in ensuring lifting operations are carried out safely and in accordance with approved lift plans.
• Health and Safety Legislation
Reviewing the legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice relevant to lifting operations, including LOLER, PUWER and BS 7121.
• Roles and Responsibilities Within Lifting Operations
Understanding the duties of the Appointed Person, Crane Supervisor, Crane Operator and Slinger/Signaller, and how these roles work together to maintain safe lifting practices.
• Safe Systems of Work
Learning the importance of risk assessments, method statements and lift plans in ensuring lifting activities are properly controlled and monitored.
• Types of Cranes and Lifting Equipment
Understanding the different types of cranes used within construction and industrial environments, along with their capabilities, limitations and operating requirements.
• Crane Documentation and Planning Information
Learning how to interpret lift plans, crane documentation, duty charts and supporting information required for lifting operations.
• Lifting Accessories and Slinging Principles
Understanding the selection and use of lifting accessories, including slings, chains and shackles, and verifying their suitability for specific lifting tasks.
• Load Assessment and Stability
Learning how to identify load characteristics, centres of gravity and environmental factors that may influence lifting operations.
• Preparing the Lift Area
Understanding how to establish exclusion zones, identify hazards and prepare lifting areas to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
• Communication and Coordination
Developing effective communication skills for coordinating lifting operations and maintaining clear communication between members of the lifting team.
• Supervising Lifting Operations
Learning how to monitor lifting activities, ensure compliance with lift plans and take appropriate action if unsafe conditions arise.
• Theory and Practical Testing
Delegates complete the CPCS Theory Test and Practical Technical Test to demonstrate their understanding of crane supervision and lifting operation requirements.

This course is designed for site supervisors, lifting supervisors, forepersons, managers and other personnel who are responsible for supervising lifting operations on construction and industrial sites.
There are no formal prerequisites for this course. Delegates should have a good understanding of spoken and written English to successfully complete the theory and practical assessments.
