The EUSR Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness (SHEA) Water Virtual course provides delegates with the essential health, safety and environmental knowledge required to work safely within the water industry. Delivered through a live online classroom, the course combines core workplace health and safety awareness with water industry-specific requirements, enabling delegates to understand their responsibilities, recognise workplace hazards and apply safe working practices across a range of water industry environments.

Learning about the responsibilities of employers, employees and contractors in creating and maintaining safe, healthy and compliant working environments.
• Environmental Awareness
Understanding how workplace activities can impact the environment and the measures required to minimise pollution, protect water resources and support sustainable operations.
• Risk Assessment and Hazard Control
Learning how workplace hazards are identified, risks assessed and suitable control measures implemented to reduce risk and promote safe working practices.
• Common Workplace Hazards
Understanding the hazards commonly encountered within utility and infrastructure environments and the practical measures used to control them.
• Occupational Health Hazards
Exploring workplace health risks including noise, vibration, hazardous substances, manual handling and wellbeing considerations.
• Emergency Procedures and Incident Response
Understanding how to respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, incidents and near misses in accordance with workplace procedures.

Developing an understanding of the water industry's operational environment, including water treatment, distribution, wastewater processes and associated infrastructure.

Understanding the hazards and control measures associated with water industry environments, including treatment works, pumping stations, reservoirs and water networks.

Exploring common hazards associated with water and wastewater operations, including confined spaces, harmful microorganisms and contaminated environments.
• Safe Systems of Work
Understanding permits to work, risk assessments, method statements and other procedures used to safely manage work activities and minimise risk.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Learning about the selection, use, maintenance and limitations of personal protective equipment commonly used within the water industry.
• Protecting the Public and Water Quality
Understanding the importance of maintaining water quality, safeguarding public health and following hygiene and contamination prevention procedures.
• Behavioural Safety and Safety Culture
Recognising how personal attitudes and behaviours contribute to a positive safety culture and support the prevention of incidents and accidents.
• Assessment
Delegates will complete the EUSR assessment to demonstrate their understanding of the SHEA Water modules and the health, safety and environmental principles required when working within the water industry.
