
Fall Protection Equipment Inspection Training
Inspect and assess working at height personal protective equipment (PPE) including harnesses, fall arrest lanyards and helmets in line with the Work at Height Regulations, LOLER and PUWER. You'll learn to identify faults, carry out formal inspections, maintain accurate records and follow controlled disposal procedures for equipment that fails inspection.
• Duty holder responsibilities
The legal and operational responsibilities of the duty holder in relation to inspection, maintenance and control of personal fall protection equipment.
• Inspection legislation and requirements
Key legislation governing equipment inspection, including the Work at Height Regulations, PUWER, LOLER and PPE at Work Regulations, and how these apply in practice.
• Equipment identification and marking
How to correctly identify equipment, understand marking requirements and ensure items are traceable and compliant.
• Inspection procedures
How to carry out structured inspections of harnesses, lanyards and helmets in line with industry guidance and manufacturer requirements.
• Fault identification and diagnosis
How to identify defects, wear and damage, and determine whether equipment is safe for continued use or must be removed from service.
• Record keeping and documentation
How to complete inspection records accurately and maintain auditable documentation of equipment condition and inspection history.
• Controlled disposal procedures
How to safely remove, quarantine and dispose of defective or condemned equipment in line with organisational procedures.
• Assessment
Practical inspection assessment supported by theory questioning to confirm competence.
Classroom-based instruction combined with hands-on practical inspection exercises focused on personal fall protection equipment. Delegates will apply inspection procedures, identify faults and complete documentation in line with legislative and manufacturer requirements.
Personnel responsible for statutory inspection of basic working at height PPE, including harnesses, helmets, fall arrest lanyards and work positioning lanyards.
Delegates should have experience in personal fall protection equipment (PFPE).
