
Fixed Ladder Rescue Training
Train to rescue a colleague safely from a fixed ladder when fall arrest systems have been activated. You'll learn to select anchor points, operate rescue kits, manage casualty lifting and lowering, and recognise and respond to suspension syncope - meeting your duties under the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
• Fixed ladder rescue scenarios
Typical rescue situations involving casualties suspended by fall arrest systems or similar equipment, and the principles of safe rescue response.
• Pre-use checks and personal protective equipment (PPE)
How to carry out pre-use inspections and correctly fit working at height PPE and sealed rescue kits prior to use.
• Rescue kit content and use
Understanding the components of a fixed ladder rescue kit and how each element is used during a rescue operation.
• Anchor point selection
How to identify and select suitable anchor points to ensure safe and effective rescue system deployment.
• Casualty lifting techniques
How to safely raise a suspended casualty using approved rescue equipment and controlled lifting methods.
• Casualty lowering techniques
How to safely lower a casualty to a point of safety using rescue systems and controlled descent procedures.
• Casualty care and management
Immediate actions required once a casualty has been recovered, including monitoring and basic care.
• Suspension syncope awareness
Understanding suspension syncope, its risks following a fall arrest event and the importance of timely rescue.
• Assessment
Practical and theory assessments completed throughout the course to demonstrate competence in rescue procedures.
Practical, instructor-led training focused on fixed ladder rescue scenarios using certified rescue equipment. Delegates will develop competence through demonstration, supervised practice and scenario-based rescue exercises.
Experienced climbers familiar with fall arrest techniques, including telecoms rooftop workers, engineers and site rescue personnel.
Delegates must hold a valid Working at Height certificate.
