
Forklift Novice Counterbalance
This Forklift Counterbalance Novice course is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a counterbalance forklift truck. The course combines theoretical understanding with practical training to ensure safe, efficient and compliant forklift operation in the workplace.
The aim of this course is to enable learners to safely and competently operate a counterbalance forklift truck, in accordance with current legislation and best practice, reducing the risk of accidents and improving workplace safety.
- Health and Safety Legislation and Responsibilities
Learn the key legal requirements relating to forklift operation, including duties under workplace safety regulations. -
Introduction to Counterbalance Forklifts and Components
Understand the design, controls and main components of a counterbalance forklift truck. -
Pre-Use Inspection and Maintenance Checks
Learn how to carry out daily safety checks and identify/report defects before using equipment. -
Safe Operating Techniques and Controls
Develop the skills to operate the forklift safely, including starting, stopping and manoeuvring. -
Stability Principles and Load Handling
Understand how load weight, centre of gravity and stability affect forklift operation. -
Handling, Stacking and De-Stacking Loads
Learn how to safely lift, transport and place loads in a controlled manner. -
Operating in the Workplace Environment
Understand how to work safely around pedestrians, racking systems and confined spaces. -
Hazard Awareness and Risk Control Measures
Identify common hazards such as uneven ground, restricted visibility and poor loading practices, and learn how to reduce risks. -
Refuelling or Battery Charging Procedures
Learn correct and safe methods for refuelling or charging electric forklifts. -
Safe Driving Practices and Manoeuvring Techniques
Develop confidence in steering, reversing and positioning the forklift safely. -
Parking and Securing the Forklift
Learn how to correctly park and shut down the vehicle when not in use. -
Practical Driving Exercises and Manoeuvres
Carry out supervised driving tasks to build competence in real-world scenarios. -
Theory and Practical Assessment
Complete assessments to demonstrate knowledge and safe operating ability.
