
Forklift Novice Narrow Aisle
To provide individuals with little or no prior experience with the knowledge, skills, and understanding required to safely operate a narrow aisle forklift (such as VNA or turret trucks), in line with current legislation and best practice, leading to initial certification and competence.
- Introduction to the narrow aisle truck and its components
Provides an overview of narrow aisle forklifts, including their design, purpose, and key differences from other lift truck types. -
Roles and responsibilities of the operator and employer
Explains the legal duties required to maintain safe working practices and a compliant workplace. -
Current health & safety legislation and guidance (e.g. HSE)
Introduces relevant UK legislation and best practice for operating specialist warehouse equipment safely. -
Pre-use inspections and defect reporting
Teaches how to carry out thorough daily checks and report faults to ensure equipment safety. -
Basic controls and safe operating techniques
Introduces the controls and safe operation of narrow aisle trucks, building confidence from beginner level. -
Operating within guided or very narrow aisle systems
Develops skills for working within rail or wire-guided systems, including entering, travelling, and exiting aisles safely. -
Load assessment, stability, and safe handling techniques
Explains how to safely handle loads in narrow conditions, focusing on balance, weight limits, and stability at height. -
Stacking and de-stacking at height
Teaches safe and precise placement and retrieval of loads at high racking levels. -
Working at height and visibility awareness
Focuses on maintaining control and awareness when operating at significant heights with restricted visibility. -
Awareness of workplace hazards and pedestrian safety
Identifies common warehouse risks and reinforces safe interaction with other personnel. -
Battery charging or power management procedures
Covers safe charging practices or power management relevant to electric narrow aisle trucks. -
Practical skills assessment and theory test
Assesses both theoretical knowledge and practical competence to ensure safe operation.

It is suitable for those who:
