IOSH Managing Working at Height Training
Managing work at height safely means more than checking a box, it requires the ability to evaluate risk assessments and method statements, select appropriate work methods and implement effective controls for staff, contractors and sub-contractors. This IOSH-approved course gives managers and supervisors the knowledge and practical skills to do exactly that, in compliance with the Work at Height Regulations 2005. On successful completion, delegates receive an IOSH Managing Work at Height certificate.
• Work at height legislation
The Work at Height Regulations 2005 and the duties they place on those responsible for managing staff and contractors working at height, including the hierarchy of measures that must be applied before work begins.
• Selection of work methods
How to evaluate and select the most appropriate work method for a given task, including when work at height can be avoided, when collective protection is required and when personal fall protection is the appropriate solution.
• Ladders and personal fall protection equipment
Safe use of ladders and an introduction to personal fall protection equipment, including the inspection requirements and the manager's responsibility for ensuring equipment is suitable and properly maintained.
• Risk assessment and method statements
How to review and write risk assessments and method statements for work at height activities, identify gaps or inadequate controls and implement the changes required to bring them up to the required standard.
• Permit issuing
When a permit to work is required for work at height, what it must contain and the responsibilities of the permit issuer in ensuring conditions are met before work begins.
• Monitoring and change implementation
How to monitor work at height activities to verify that controls are being applied correctly, and how to implement changes when conditions on site differ from those anticipated in the risk assessment or method statement.
• Assessment
Knowledge checks and practical exercises in risk assessment and method statement review, evaluated by the course instructor.

Managers and supervisors responsible for staff and contractors carrying out work at height, including those who review and approve risk assessments, method statements and permits to work.
