Ladder Safety
Ladders account for a significant proportion of fall-related accidents in the UK; many of them caused not by faulty equipment but by incorrect selection, poor setup or unsafe use. This IOSH-approved course covers how to choose the right ladder for the task, carry out a pre-use inspection, set up safely on different surfaces and in different conditions, and use ladders correctly throughout the work. Completed entirely online, it supports compliance with the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and can be used alongside other working at height training. A printable certificate is issued on completion.

How to identify the right type and class of ladder for the task, including load ratings, material considerations and when a ladder is the appropriate access equipment under the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

The inspection checks required before each use, including how to identify damage, wear and defects that would make a ladder unsafe, and what action to take when a ladder fails inspection.

How to position and secure a ladder correctly on different surfaces, including practical guidance on uneven ground, high winds and achieving the correct angle for safe use.

How to use a ladder safely during work at height, including maintaining three points of contact, managing tools and materials, recognising when conditions have changed and knowing when to stop and reassess.
