
Manual Handling Half Day
This course enables learners to understand safe manual handling principles and apply correct lifting techniques, reducing the risk of injury to themselves and others in the workplace.
- Health and Safety Legislation and Responsibilities
Learn the key legal requirements, including the Manual Handling Operations Regulations, and understand employer and employee responsibilities. -
Understanding Manual Handling and Injury Risks
Recognise how poor manual handling can lead to injuries such as musculoskeletal disorders and strains. -
Common Causes of Manual Handling Injuries
Identify factors such as poor posture, overreaching and excessive loads that contribute to injuries. -
Principles of Safe Manual Handling (TILE/TILEO)
Learn how to assess Tasks, Individuals, Loads and Environment (and Other factors) before carrying out a task. -
Correct Lifting Techniques
Understand and practice safe lifting methods to reduce strain on the body and maintain control of loads. -
Pushing and Pulling Techniques
Learn safer methods for moving loads using pushing or pulling rather than lifting where possible. -
Use of Mechanical Aids
Understand when and how to use equipment such as trolleys or sack trucks to reduce manual effort. -
Hazard Awareness and Risk Assessment
Identify risks within the workplace and understand how to reduce or eliminate them. -
Individual Capability and Limitations
Recognise personal limitations and understand the importance of not exceeding safe working capacity. -
Practical Exercises and Demonstrations
Take part in demonstrations or exercises to apply safe handling techniques in realistic scenarios. -
Theory Assessment (if applicable)
Complete a short assessment to confirm understanding of safe manual handling principles.
Duration: Half day
Start time: 08:30 – 09:00 or 12:30 – 13:00
Finish time: 12:00 – 12:30 or 16:00 – 16:30
