
Overhead Crane Novice
This Overhead Crane Novice course is designed to provide learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate an overhead crane. The course covers health and safety requirements, correct operating techniques and practical lifting exercises to ensure safe and efficient crane operation in the workplace.
The aim of this course is to enable learners to safely and competently operate an overhead crane, in accordance with current legislation and best practice, reducing risks associated with lifting operations.
- Health and Safety Legislation and Responsibilities
Learn the key legal requirements relating to lifting operations and understand the duties of both employers and operators. -
Introduction to Overhead Cranes and Components
Understand the different types of overhead cranes, their controls and the function of key components. -
Pre-Use Inspection and Defect Reporting
Learn how to carry out safety checks and identify faults before operating the crane. -
Safe Operating Techniques and Controls
Develop the skills to safely lift, lower and move loads in a controlled and efficient manner. -
Understanding Load Weights, Centres of Gravity and Stability
Learn how to assess loads to ensure balance and prevent swinging or loss of control. -
Slinging Techniques and Use of Lifting Accessories
Gain knowledge of correct methods for attaching loads using appropriate lifting equipment. -
Hazard Awareness and Risk Control Measures
Identify common lifting hazards and understand how to reduce risks during crane operations. -
Communication and Signalling Methods
Learn how to communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure safe and coordinated lifting activities. -
Safe Working Practices in the Lift Area
Understand exclusion zones, positioning and safe movement within the working environment. -
