
Slinging and Lifting Novice
This Slinging and Lifting – Novice course is designed to provide learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely sling loads and assist in lifting operations. The course focuses on safe slinging techniques, hazard awareness and correct use of lifting accessories to ensure safe and efficient lifting in the workplace.
The aim of this course is to enable learners to safely and competently sling loads and assist with lifting operations, in accordance with current legislation and best practice, reducing the risk of accidents during lifting activities.

Health and Safety Legislation and Responsibilities
Learn the key legal requirements relating to lifting operations, including LOLER and PUWER and understand responsibilities of all involved. -
Introduction to Slinging and Lifting Operations
Understand the role of the slinger/signaller and how lifting operations are planned and carried out safely. -
Types of Lifting Equipment and Accessories
Identify different slings, chains, hooks and accessories and understand their applications. -
Pre-Use Inspection and Defect Reporting
Learn how to inspect lifting equipment for damage or defects and report issues correctly. -
Understanding Load Weights and Centres of Gravity
Learn how to assess loads to ensure balance and stability during lifting. -
Safe Slinging Techniques and Methods
Develop the skills to attach loads securely using appropriate slinging methods. -
Use of Hand Signals and Communication Methods
Learn recognised signalling techniques to communicate clearly with crane operators. -
Hazard Awareness and Risk Control Measures
Identify common hazards and understand how to minimise risks during lifting operations. -
Safe Working Practices and Positioning
Learn how to position yourself safely to maintain visibility and avoid danger zones. -
Practical Slinging and Lifting Exercises
Carry out supervised tasks to develop competence in load attachment and lifting support. - Theory and Practical Assessment
Complete assessments to demonstrate knowledge and safe practical ability.
This course is suitable for:
