Scaffolding firm to be prosecuted following fatal fall

S&S Scaffolding of Atherton will appear in court on Thursday in relation to the death of Anthony Causby (42) from Leigh, in December 2010.

Causby was helping to dismantle scaffolding at the Walker Snack Foods site on Pennine Way when he stepped onto a fragile skylight and fell 12 metres to the floor below.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is taking legal action against S&S Scaffolding Ltd following an investigation into the incident.

The company has been charged with breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and Regulation 9(2) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

The charges relate to failing to ensure the safety of employees and failing to prevent workers being injured in a fall through a fragile surface.

S&S Scaffolding, of Arley Way in Atherton, is due to appear before Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for the first hearing in the case.
