Old ropes find their fashion calling

Fashion student Frankie Dean found an exciting way to give old rope a new lese of life.

Contacting us back in February Frankie had the idea to take old rope and recycle it into fashion garments.

"I would be quite interested in taking as much rope as you would be happy to give me as to make the fabric it requires quite a lot of rope to make even small amounts and cutting it to 2 meters would be fine.

I am developing ways to line the garments to make them less rough against the skin, it's been a really interesting project so would be able to send you photographs of the rope in use once I had constructed it if you were interested. "

Total Access was more than happy to assist Frankie with her fashion project.

The rope donated was all in excellent condition but due to strict PPE max life use dates it means it could no longer be used for safety purpose and so could no longer be used at Total Access.

Frankie stated…

" The coat has gone really well thanks, it took a long time as I have been making a rope coat, dress and top alongside other fabric garments for this project but everything is now finished and I  handed in the project this morning. Thank you so much for all the rope you gave me it was amazing and exactly what I was after. I have loved putting the fabric and garments together, broken a lot of needles along the way but the photos in this email are of me printing onto the rope on the heat press and of it in stages of construction.

Moving into her final year Rankie is really excited to devlope her rop garments even further

"I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out as I've never made garments with the fabric on this scale before but I'm really excited to develop it more next year in my final year of uni with stronger men's and womenswear silhouettes as this year it was a unisex project"
