Sinergy Concepts noticed a weakness with the current accepted practice in the rope access industry of working with ropes through metal gratings, commonly found on offshore installations.
The current method consists of both the working and back-up ropes through a single canvas rope protector. Canvas is an effective material against abrasion, but any woven fabric is susceptible to cuts from sharp edges, as can sometimes be found on corroded gratings.
Ropes should ideally be anchored directly above the grating entry point, but this in practice is not always possible. It is sometimes necessary to rig with the ropes at an acute angle to the grating, with the 90 degree grating edge contacting the ropes. Any small radius curve taking the full load of the ropes will decrease the potential breaking strength.
A solution to these problems is the new RopePro – Rope Protector for Metal Gratings.
Key Features of the RopePro include:
The rope is fed through the component, a knot tied in the end of the rope and fed through the grating, and the component inserted into the grating. Two 5mm holes in the outside edge will provide for 4mm cord to secure the unit to the grating to eliminate the chance of 'pop out'.
